The Scariest Health Choice: Disconnecting From God’s Hope

Welcome to our special Halloween episode, where we explore the scariest health choice you can make.

Halloween, with its focus on death and darkness, serves as a powerful reminder of the brevity of life. Join us as we draw parallels between the dry bones in Ezekiel's vision and our own health struggles. Just as God brought life to those bones, we can find hope and healing in our health journey by reconnecting with the source of life, which is Christ.

Discover how the Scriptures breathe life into our health habits and learn how to bring spiritual meaning to everyday actions.

Don't let your health journey become a valley of dry bones; allow God to transform you into an army of believers, filled with the eternal light of His Spirit. Tune in and let's pray for a healthier, spiritually empowered you.

Halloween, Health, and Hope

In this episode of the Joyful health Show, we explore the meaning of Halloween and how we can use it as an opportunity to expose the scariest thing you can do for your health. Hint: it's not eating processed foods! We will explore where you may have lost hope when it comes to your health, and how God can breathe in new life in the form of Scripture encouragement and prayer.

Key Takeaways:

  1. Your biggest health threats are adjacent to your fears.

  2. The valley of dry bones means you're not alone in this struggle.

  3. All Scripture is God-breathed, and the Bible is where you can start for new life.

Listen to the mini episode below to get all the details:

Scripture to Breathe Life into Your Health Habits

Instead of isolating these health habits from the source of life in Christ, let’s bring in the breath of God (1 Timothy 3) and give new life to these dry bones:

  • Instead of counting calories, let’s count our blessings before a meal ("Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits" Psalm 103:2)

  • Let us not simply track daily sleep cycles, but emphasize true spiritual Sabbath rest ("Observe my Sabbaths and have reverence for my sanctuary. I am the Lord." Leviticus 26:2)

  • Let us not monitor heart rate during exercise and forget to check in on our heart during daily moments of stress (“Search me, O God, and know my heart! Try me and know my thoughts!” Psalm 139:23)

  • Instead of weighing our body on the scale, let’s remember that Jesus balanced the eternal scales for us through his death and resurrection (“For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 6:23)

  • Replace the commitment to log 10,000 steps with the resolution to bring the peace of the gospel on the way ("How beautiful on the mountains are the feet of those who bring good news, who proclaim peace, who bring good tidings, who proclaim salvation, who say to Zion, ‘Your God reigns!’” Isaiah 52:7)

  • Instead of striving to lose body weight, may we never forget to go to God to lose the weight of shame through forgiveness (“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” 1 John 1:9)

Start Renewing Your Mind from Diet Culture to Kingdom Abundance

Instead of Monday being the day when you start over on your diet, what if we redeemed it as the day we started with the Kingdom?

If we are now citizens of heaven, we must start living in that reality.

If you want to get intentional about renewing your mind in alignment with Kingdom abundance for your health, it starts with consistently spending time with the Lord in the Scriptures.

The best way to stay consistent is to make it easy, doable, and regular.

That’s why we have created the Mindful Moments for Present People devotional series.

Each week, you’ll get a 1-minute devotional with a short practice to debunk diet culture and focus on Kingdom abundance.

Join our mailing list and we’ll send you a the Mindful Moments for Present People series every Monday morning.

Here’s an example devotional for you:

“Whoever finds his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life for my sake will find it.” Matthew 10:39

When we pursue health at the expense of our soul, we lose both. Jesus says the answers we need are not in our willpower within, but in surrendering ourselves to Him. As the tree lets go of dying leaves, so we must let go of the ways that will not last, but only hold us back. Ask God what parts of yourself you need to lose for the sake of His son.

Breath prayer:

Exhale: I lose my life

Inhale: For your sake

Rise up and bless the Lord of life.
