Top ten podcast episodes about Christ-centered health

At Joyful Health we like to filter everything we do through our core values; therefore, we’ve arranged our top ten episodes according to these values for you. These core values are a great pathway to get your health aligned on the appropriate focus!

#1 Start with Prayer

Joyful Health’s first core value is “Start with Prayer”. In all aspects of life, especially our health, the practice of communicating with the Lord is vitally important! Therefore, it’s only fitting to list episode 29 as our first recommendation.

EP 29: How Prayer Practically Changes Our Body Image

In episode 29, we discuss how prayer practically changes our body image. Body image is the perception of ourselves in the mirror, how we feel in our body, and our sense of control within our body throughout the day. These thoughts or feelings about yourself and reflection are shaped by media, family, or friends. While these voices are important, what’s even more impactful on body image is hearing what God says about us by connecting with Him through Scripture-focused prayer. In this episode, Aubrey and Kasey discuss personal stories of body image, how prayer affects the brain, and how time with God moves us from preoccupation with ourselves to praise for Him.

Key points:

  • How body image is a complex system processed by our brains

  • What prayer is and how it changes your body image mindset

  • How to establish a twelve-minute prayer routine to improve your body image

#2 Lead with Compassion

A second core value of Joyful Health is to lead with compassion. Jesus exemplified this as he went to the cross because of His compassion and love, giving us access to His grace! No one can be perfect enough (or healthy enough) to find salvation any other way but through Him. In your approach to health, this is one of our prayers for you, that you might receive the compassion and grace of Christ, and then pass the compassion forward, to yourself and others!

#3 Stay Curious

In Christianity, the journey to become like Christ is always ongoing. There’s always more to learn and further to grow. Likewise, in health, the goal is to grow in our mindsets and practices. #5 Walk with Integrity

A friend of mine told me the other day that in her exhaustion she made a grilled cheese for her daughter…without the cheese! I mean, it could be worse right? After all, you can’t go wrong with grilled bread. However, it sure is a sadder sandwich without the cheese! Bread and cheese make a pretty awesome package.

Likewise, two ingredients that form an awesome package for healthy living are grace and truth. Sound familiar? Jesus came to the earth offering grace and truth. (John 1:14) He still desires for us to walk out our lives with both. In grace and truth, we find completeness. According to Oxford Languages, another way to define completeness, “the state of being whole and undivided”, is integrity. Wouldn’t you love to live out your health journey with integrity?

To learn more about how to have integrity and completeness with grace and truth, try out this episode:

#6 Cultivate Connection

From the very beginning of time, God knew it wasn’t good for man to be alone. Relationships greatly influence our health. Positive relationships work wonders for health. However, relational conflict or lack of community negatively affects your health in ways like disordered eating/exercise or negative self-worth. In turn, this can cause some tough emotions to arise which might be coped with through emotional eating. Now, emotional eating isn’t always a bad thing. We are humans after all and are bound to have emotions when we eat! However, coping with emotions through food shouldn’t be the only tool in the toolbox. This episode below walks you through how to find and maintain healthy relationships so that you have multiple ways to cope with the difficulties of life.

EP 18: Healthy Coping Strategies for Christians with Relational Stress with Counselor Lisa Peck

In episode 18, Aubrey and Amanda interview Christian counselor and educator Lisa Peck. Lisa talks with us about healthy coping skills, relational healing, and embracing a mindset of practice instead of perfection.

Key points:

  • How relationship stress can lead to disordered eating and exercising

  • How to heal your relationships when conflict arises

  • How Scripture can help you cope with difficult emotions

When we don’t know how to handle relational stress, we can try to control our health to find success. Lisa teaches us a different way, one that helps us stretch our comfort zones and become confident in navigating relational conflict as part of God’s redemptive process.
