Honoring Your Body When You Don’t Feel Like It with Dana Schaub, RD

What if you want to get healthy, but you feel too unhealthy, too tired, too far gone?

Dana Schaub felt this way too.

She disciplined herself to the point of disconnecting from the true source of health.

Although she knew she needed to take a break, she felt guilty when she rested. Experiencing brain fog, sickness, and chest tightness, she would drink coffee to get herself through the day. Still she wondered, “Am I always going to feel this way?”

In this episode of the Joyful Health Show, she tells us how she moved forward in honoring her body and how you can, too.

When You Lack Motivation to Get Healthy

In this episode of the Joyful Health Show, we ask Dana Schaub, RD and Intuitive Eating Counselor, about how to honor God and your body when you lack motivation. How do you take care of yourself when you’re not in the mood to make good decisions? How do you get out of the rut of self-sabotage when you’re tired? In this conversation, you’ll learn how to replace burdensome health habits with grace-driven self-care. As always, joyful health is more simple than we think, but sometimes we need another perspective to lift us up and show us a new way.

Listen and put into place these 3 tips:

1. Replace old habits with grace and attunement to your body.

2. Let go of perfection and embrace grace in your self-care journey.

3. Prioritize listening to your body and give yourself what you need for a healthier life.

Steps to Start Honoring God with Your Body When You Don’t Feel Like It

For the person who wants to honor their body but lacks motivation, here are some practical questions to ask yourself:

  1. Are you putting too much pressure on yourself?

  2. Where are you overriding your body’s cues, or putting in an inordinate amount of effort?

  3. Do you find yourself resisting a provider’s instructions because your autonomy feels threatened?

Here’s what you can do:

  1. If you’re feeling guilty: Shame and guilt can weigh you down for “not doing it right.” Instead, allow yourself to grieve the past and humble yourself before God. Allow Him to rise up, and then follow.

  2. Pray first: Ask God for the right heart and a pure motivation

  3. Start walking in step with the Holy Spirit: What’s one thing you can do for your health right now?
